A former teacher, Sarah spent four years with VSO in Zambia before joining Tools for Self Reliance. After 14 years, including volunteer management, she became CEO in 2012, having gained an MSc in Development Management.
Cecily Bryant
Africa Programme Manager
Cecily first arrived in Africa over 25 years ago, researching livelihoods and food insecurity in Zimbabwe. Since then, she has managed development and humanitarian programmes across Africa and the Caribbean.
Colin Burford
Workshop and Site Manager
Joining us from the fire service, Colin keeps our ship running smoothly, ensuring high-quality tools reach our trainees and supporting public sales. He also oversees our Netley Marsh site and tenants.
Vicky Fernandes
Individual Giving Officer
Vicky studied Anthropology at the University of Kent before working in conference coordination, events and marketing. She later joined an environmental charity, before becoming TFSR’s Individual Giving Officer.
Ben Riley
Volunteer Co-ordinator
Studied Business Studies at Plymouth University, spent 12 years in the NHS recruiting blood donors before joining an HIV charity as Fundraising and Volunteer Officer.
Sam Northcott
Administration Officer
Previously worked at HSBC, the Local Planning Authority and most recently Hampshire Constabulary. Joined the team at the end of March 2014 and deals with the daily running of the office.
Sonia Jackson
Marketing and Development Manager
Sonia joined TFSR in 2025, bringing experience in marketing, communications and strategic planning, alongside a practical, hands-on approach. Family ties to Kenya, Tanzania and Zimbabwe have shaped her interest in international development.
Mandy Irvine
Finance Officer
Having lived and worked around the world, Mandy brings extensive finance experience across a range of industries. She joined TFSR in 2024, and enjoys working alongside our volunteers while learning more about the charity sector.
