Give unwanted tools a new purpose
Do you have unwanted tools gathering dust in your garage, shed or workshop? By donating tools to Tools for Self Reliance, you can help people learn a trade, earn an income and build a better future.
We refurbish and redistribute donated tools to support vocational training projects in Africa and practical skills programmes in the UK.
Our partners identify the trades most needed in their communities and the tools required for training and self-employment. Donated tools help to:
- Equip training workshops
- Support apprentices and trainees
- Provide graduates with starter tool kits
- Create opportunities for sustainable livelihoods
What happens to donated tools?
Every donated tool is carefully assessed by our volunteers.
Where appropriate, tools are refurbished and shipped to our projects. In some countries, importing second-hand tools is not permitted, or tools are more readily available locally. In these cases, donated tools may be sold through our shop, online channels and tool sales.
The funds raised help support training programmes, purchase tools locally and contribute towards container shipments.
Nothing goes to waste. Whether a tool is reused, refurbished, shipped or sold to raise funds, your donation helps create opportunities for people to learn, work and thrive.
What tools can I donate?
We welcome donations of quality hand tools, trade tools, workshop equipment and related items. If you’re unsure whether your tools are suitable, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to advise.
